So far, so good for one of the many racing games playable here at E3.

Need for Speed: SHIFT is definitely a new species compared to the rest of the Need for Speed franchise. The blur effects, seen in the previous trailer here, really mess with you when playing in the in-cabin view. Nudges and bumps really have a good effect and sound, however, hard collisions lead to severely blurred vision that can cause even more collisions. After one particular series of crashes, I was sure that the driver in my vehicle must have sustained several concusions and temporary blindness.

Overall the XBOX 360 demo I played is pretty good and it's definitely not the same old NFS that we all know. It reminds me of Race Driver: GRID, in styling and with badges being abruptly awarded during races. In terms of car physics, it feels almost like a combination of GRID and GTR while still slightly leaning towards the gameplay style of GRID.
