The Madden franchise has spanded 2 decades and is constantly branching out. Initially, you could only play Madden in the comfort of your own home (or someone elses), but that changed long ago. Along with this year's magnificant console versions (Wii included), we're given another opportunity to take some pig-skin on the go with Madden NFL 10 (iPhone).
As you may have guessed, this game doesn't exceed the powerhouse console iterations, but it does pretty well for a portable football game (especially considering the iPhone's limitations). With all the negatives aside, its a great game to have with you at all times.
EA Mobile is heading in the right direction with their first Madden title for iPhone. Hopefully we can get some serious updates soon instead of waiting for next year's iPhone app.

What saves Madden NFL 10 from being a disappointment is the Action Control and Hot Route features.
Action Control
EA Mobile did a great job of making up for the iPhone's lack of ability (and buttons) with this feature. Basically, the Action Control button (shown above) slows down time and gives you more options to juke, spin, power hit, etc.
Not only does this feature work well on offense, but especially on defense. Now, I say especially because the transparent joystick is a little difficult at times. In order to intercept a receiver, its best to slow down time and angle yourself.
Hot Route
Much like the 'Call Your Shot' featured in Madden NFL 10 Wii, iPhone users are given the opportunity to draw routes for receivers. Simply select the Hot Route button, select your receiver, and simply draw a new route.
Since audibles aren't implemented, this feature can make a big difference when reading the defense.

Granted, this is a solid football game, but not exactly the most glamorious. To be honest, the tackles/hits are just plain ugly (the original NFL Blitz had better animation). You may frown at the funky moments, but it doesn't ruin the overall experience.
In conclusion, Madden NFL 10 (iPhone) is a great portable football game but lacks the depth and quality of its console brethrens. Users are given the access to all teams, players and stadiums along with the ability to adjust the rosters.
If you're a sports fan and own an iPhone/Touch, I highly recommend it, even for $10
PROS: Easy navigation, pick up and play, exit and continue your game at any time, Action Control, Hot Route, soundtrack.
CONS: $10 price tag, ugly animations, controls are far from perfect
