Details on EA's expansion of the Madden franchise, with a casual downloadable title for the Xbox Live Marketplace and the PlayStation 3 Store, were revealed today. Developed by EA Tiburon, Madden NFL Arcade will arrive in December and be priced for download at 1,200 points or $14.99. This will be the second foray into the downloadable arcade styled sports game for EA, following 3 on 3 NHL Arcade from early this year.

More after the jump.

Madden NFL Arcade will feature pick-up-and-play game mechanics and will include all 32 NFL teams and enough superstars to fill each team's roster for 5-on-5 gameplay. While no players have been confirmed to be on the roster, some players can be ruled out- kickers, as the arcade style gameplay will have no field goals. The game is essentially guaranteed to be fast paced as players will have four plays to get into the endzone, very important considering the game has no clock and instead is won by reaching a preset amount of points, and penalties will be excluded- something that would have made Bill Romanowski and Conrad Dobler very happy.

Obviously this game will be very reminiscent of the NFL Blitz series which now no longer carry the official license and are, to put it lightly, a bit more extreme than those original titles. EA Tiburon, and gamers in general, will probably be hoping things turn out better for Madden NFL Arcade than they did for the last arcade style football game from the company, NFL Tour, which was met with lukewarm reactions at best. With the highly exalted Madden name attached to this arcade title, one would assume EA will make sure it is worthy of the pedigree.
