So, this is it fellas. The Hail Marry pass with 1 second left on the clock was dropped and the game's over, the fans are leaving the stadium and the lights will be turned off for the last time. BlogFaction is being decommissioned immediately and that means all the fun content you've grown to love on GamePro Sports grinds to a hault as well.

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of the readers and most importantly our writers for all their hardwork. But first, I'd like to take this opportunity to take full responsibility for the antics that ensued on a certain “Ask the GameGirls” post a while back. We hosted a hilariously funny contest at your expense and we don't regret any of it. We figured you'd never catch us because, well, we knew you didn't read our site. It just didn't make sense, under these circumstance, to not own up to it.

More serious goodbyes after the jump.

Seriously though, BlogFaction has been a great family and I've personally enjoyed my two years as part of it. I've grown so much as a writer, especially a writer in the games industry, but I've also grown a lot as a person. I guess you never really think about how an experience like this can change you as a person, but it does, and it did, and I'm grateful for that.

GamePro Sports started 8 months ago as a passion project, one that could fulfill the need to cover a pretty large niche. In those 8 months the staff expanded to 11 writers – 2 of which never even got the chance to post – and broke into the top 5 most trafficked BlogFaction sites. I like to think we were starting to make some waves, even if they were small.

Much of this site's success is owed to the hardwork, dedication, creativity and passion of its writers. You guys are absolutely awesome, and I'm so grateful that we had the opportunity to share in this experience. I can't thank you enough for all your hardwork.

The rest of this site's success has to be credited to our readers. You embraced us from the start and you stuck with us through all the contests, antics and controversy. When we wanted you to make us crazy MS Paint drawings, you said “yes.” When we wanted you to post insanely random and fictitious stories on GameGirl.com, you said “yes.” When we linked to a site that linked to a site that linked to a site that had the video of Erin Andrews naked, you said “HELL YES.” But beyond that, you came to us for our opinions on sports games because you respected what we thought, and that has been incredibly humbling. So, thank you, you guys have been great.

Before we fade to black, there's a few loose strings that need to be tied up.

  1. The GamePro Sports Madden 10 Online Franchise will continue on via the thread in the GamePro forums. There will still be prizes.

  2. Joe at xboxfanforce.com, as far as we're concerned, you've still been challenged to a fight against Drew in Street Fighter IV!

  3. If any of you would like to continue to follow some of us, and our careers in the industry, you can do so on Twitter at @ScottPytlik and @d123vv (Drew Fama).

Now, I leave you with this – the amazing artwork of our fans!

Har har guys... I remember thinking some gang of trolls had gotten to us. I wasn't sure who though since we're not worth 4chan's time. GOOD TO KNOW IT WAS YOU GUYS =P

Hey at least I got to post some haiku before it all went under! If anybody cares, my twitter is http://twitter.com/lightfantastic and if you really have free time you can follow my exploits as a starving artist in the world of video game journalism at http://inanothercastle.net

That GameGirls thing made me laugh so hard, it was one of the original reasons I wanted to come over here and write. And even though the amount of money we were all getting paid, an astronomical sum obviously, wasn't what I had grown accustomed to while freelancing I really liked the writers over here and thought this had a chance to grow beyond just another blogfaction site. Everyone here is more professional and more fresh than most people in the game journalism world right now. It is a shame it isn't being given more of a chance, but for what it is worth I enjoyed my brief cup of coffee here with you guys.

Success! A gamegirl read one of our posts; even if it is our very last one.

We had a great run here at gp sports and blogfaction, and I'm sure antics will ensue elsewhere. But, it was a great experience writing here for 8 months. We were able to pretend as if we knew what we were doing, kick shoes over goal posts, and play video games. We even managed to add a writer with a beard that can only be eclipsed by communist dictators'. I wish everyone good luck on their next venture.

If anyone needs me, or wants to challenge me to SF4, my twitter is linked above.
