In case you haven’t heard, Jerry Moyes (owner?) of the Phoenix Coyotes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May, 5. Well, this created a rolling snowball of arguments, stress, and STFU statements. The problem begins with Moyes, who claims he’s still the owner of the Coyotes, but according to the NHL, Moyes lost control on Nov. 14, 2008. In Moyes’ eyes, he had the right to file bankruptcy, in the eyes of the NHL, he had no authority to file Chapter 11.
I’m sure you can imagine the conflicts that are to follow this serious, yet laughable situation. How can someone not know if he or she owns an NHL team?
Yesterday, Judge Redfield T. Baum ordered Jerry Moyes and the NHL to mediate and conclude who owns the Phoenix Coyotes. Along with the mediation ruling, Baum also stated that a ruling needs to be set on whether or not the Coyotes can be relocated before being sold.
Find out how Moyes' plan differs from that of the NHL's after the jump.
