The true battle for the cup began Thursday night with the start of the NHL season. There is plenty of hype over who is the front runner for the Stanley Cup. Can the Penguins repeat? Are the Red Wings finally too old? Have the Sharks removed that chicken bone from their throat?

Thankfully, we have this year's edition of EA's NHL series was without a doubt the authority on simulation hockey this year (until it decided who would win the cup...) so I decided to let it help us figure out exactly who's going where this year in the NHL.

Check out the results of the 09-10 NHL season after the jump!

The location

Last Tuesday, I found myself coming out of an airport and into the dry and hot weather of Las Vegas, Nev. What were you doing there, you ask? Good question, because I'm relatively hazy about the whole ordeal, but I do remember something about an open bar. Thankfully, I managed to take some notes on the happenings during my visit to The Strip.

2K Sports flew out a bunch of members of the press to attend a special Motion Capture event at Caesar's Palace, and no, the Caesar did not actually stay there. The stage was set with "synthetic ice,” or as I would describe it, greased up plastic. The event was a double debut: The first being Alexander Ovechkin, the now two time NHL MVP, as the cover athlete for NHL 2K10. And the second being the world debut of a brand new motion capture camera. Vegas was primed for some NHL 2K10 action.

Don't you just love games like these? Whether or not its a sport I adore, if the finals make it to game 7, I'm more than interested. I've written down some fun and interesting facts about the history of the Red Wings, Penguins and the Stanley Cup. Use this info to decide who has the advantage and who will take home the 2009 Stanley Cup.

While the Coyotes’ fate is still to be determined, there’re a couple teams that are either being bought out, or being paid for. A group based in Toronto, known as The Toronto Legacy Group, has accumulated $900 million in order to expand Toronto’s NHL involvement. That’s right, as predicted by the 2012-13 season, there’ll be two NHL teams stationed in Toronto. Along with this, the principal owner of the St. Louis Blues, Dave Checketts, plans to acquire the Rams and keep the team in St. Louis.

In case you haven’t heard, Jerry Moyes (owner?) of the Phoenix Coyotes filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May, 5. Well, this created a rolling snowball of arguments, stress, and STFU statements. The problem begins with Moyes, who claims he’s still the owner of the Coyotes, but according to the NHL, Moyes lost control on Nov. 14, 2008. In Moyes’ eyes, he had the right to file bankruptcy, in the eyes of the NHL, he had no authority to file Chapter 11.

I’m sure you can imagine the conflicts that are to follow this serious, yet laughable situation. How can someone not know if he or she owns an NHL team?

Yesterday, Judge Redfield T. Baum ordered Jerry Moyes and the NHL to mediate and conclude who owns the Phoenix Coyotes. Along with the mediation ruling, Baum also stated that a ruling needs to be set on whether or not the Coyotes can be relocated before being sold.

Find out how Moyes' plan differs from that of the NHL's after the jump.

There really isn't too much to say about this other than Randy Moeller could be the most ridiculous sports announcer ever.  Check it out:

I was sitting at work when I got an email alert from the Associated Press about an AHL goalie losing his cool after a questionable shootout goal. For those of you who don't know, in a hockey shootout there must be continual action and the player with the puck is not allowed to skate away from the goaltender after moving toward him. Whether or not the goal was questionable is your call, but frankly it's just hilarious watching this goalie flip the F out.

Video after the jump.

Now I will be the first to admit I am not remotely close to being PC. So when I found this video from Feb 27th 2009 of the USA vs Canada Paraplegic hockey teams bashing each others heads in, I just had to make sure everyone got the opportunity to view this EPIC battle.

Who do you think was the winner?
