In a shocking turn of events that will likely spark debate for the month until the PGA championship, Tiger Woods did NOT make the cut at The Open Tournament at Turnberry. Ironically thought, there will be a TW playing this weekend and that honor will go to 60 year old Tom Watson who shares the clubhouse lead at -5 under through 36 holes. This is the first time Woods has missed a cut in 10 straight Major tournaments. Many will likely blame the knee for this, but it was Tiger spraying of shots on the fairway that kept him from moving on to the weekend (see video below):

At one point he had upwards of 100 people looking for a golf ball he sprayed into the rough, to which not one could find said ball. This is typically not something that happens to professional golfers, but was definitely par for the course this week for Tiger. Ironically, Tiger is not having the same problem in the EA Sports Open, which is playable online. The current leader through all four rounds is Mustardat -70 (210). The character played is likely Woods, which is ironic given his floundering at the Open Championship. If you think you can shoot better than -70 through 4 rounds at Turnberry, get on your TW 10 and select the "Live Tournament" mode for a chance to win prizes, in game cash, EA points and more.

For those of you who haven't caught any pictures of today's first round from the US Open, 16-year old Drew Weaver is powering his way to a first round 69. That's five strokes better than Tiger's first round score and something he can tell his kids about. Now, had he gone to Loudmouth Golf, located in Sonoma, California, he could have gotten himself a sweet pair of pants to go with that sweater vest he's wearing today.

If Loudmouth Golf sounds familiar, it is because the company just signed on PGA Tour stalwart John Daly to wear their outrageous outfits while on tour. I got a chance this week to ask 13 burning questions of founder Scott "Woody " Woodworth about his company, product and the addition of John Daly to the Loudmouth family:

One day before the start of the US Open and Rocco Mediate is already reminding everyone that he is not in fact Tiger Woods. For those of you who remember it was a year ago at Torrey Pines when Tiger on a bad knee, beat Mediate in a playoff to capture another US Open title. Tiger was kind enough to put Rocco in this year's version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, which I should have a full review of for you tomorrow. Rocco attmepts to immitate Tiger's video response to a user who claimed that he found a glitch in last year's version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09. See below for the hilarity:

For those of you who have never seen Charles Barkley swing a golf club prior to his date with Hank Haney, I recommend you don't. It's Sanjaya bad and that's being nice about it. The best in the game, Tiger Woods, has deemed it the "worst swing in golf," as has Michael Jordan (although his baseball swing likely comes a distant second).

Things got so bad for Barkley last year, that during the 19th annual American Century Championship, he actually hit a fan in the head with an errant tee shot. Despite his dedication to the tournament (he's played in 13 out of the 20 events dating back to 1993) he could be turning into a PR disaster for the event if he continues to take out attendees.

In comes Hank Haney, legendary golf coach and mentor to the great one, Tiger Woods (also a predominant character in Tiger Woods golf 2009). Can he accomplish the impossible and cure the worst swing in golf? Well if you've been wathcing the "Hank Haney project: Charles Barkley," then you'd see the progress they're making on his swing (or at least in his head). Will the swing be ready to go in time for the Championship, slated for July 17th-19th in beautiful Lake Tahoe? Well, I wouldn't be surprised if it isn't, but his odds of winning can't be any worse then they were last year right (500 to 1)?

Today, in a conference call, Barkley (as well as Haney and Trent Dilfer) answered questions from TheNate as well as a slew of other reporters, all of whom are planning to wear a hard hat to the event in July.

For those of you who didn't catch it, this past weekend was the LPGA's Kraft-Nabisco Championships. The tournament which always takes place before the Masters is the LPGA's equivilant; so long as you substitute the green jacket for a jump into a pond.

This year's tournament was quite interesting with young and old talent competing at the highlest level on one of the best courses in America. What was interesting about the event was the lack of the tour's "A" players competing on Sunday. This got me thinking, could someone actually beat out Tiger Woods? Using my vast knowledge of the golfing world I have assembled a list of 6 players that could beat Tiger and what they need to do in order to beat him:

With the Final Four coming to a head this weekend and baseball starting off, that means just one thing to golf enthusiasts: Masters time.

The Masters is, as CBS so astutely puts it, “A tradition like any other”. It has so much history, drama and overall fanfare that it makes for one of my favorite yearly golf events (sans the FBR Open). This is golf’s Mecca, where the greatest golfers in the world fight it out for quite possibly one of the least fashionable prizes in sports history: a green jacket.

We here at the GP Sports are very excited for this years Masters, especially now that Tiger has won a tournament and seems to be getting back to the “old Tiger”. In anticipation of next week’s showdown at Augusta, we’ve prepared a list of items we’re hoping for at the tournament this year:

Tiger's not happy.    Today, Tiger Woods announced that he will be withdrawing from the upcoming Masters event. Despite his dramatic win at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, Woods has been forced to sit out from the Masters tournament he was warming up for. This comes as a shock and disappointment to all of us hoping to see Woods play and, probably, come away with another Masters title.

More after the jump.

Although Tiger Woods may have made an early departure in this week's match play tournament. The rest of the players are aware that their fun is over in this new Nike commercial.
