This weekend at the US Open Serena Williams simply lost it when a line judge called a controversial foot fault on her as Williams was trying to salvage a game against Kim Clijsters. Check it out:
Officially it was reported that Serena said,. "I swear to God I'm f***ing going to take this f***ing ball and shove it down your f***ing throat, you hear that? I swear to God."
You may have gotten the sense of what she said about the ball in throat when looking at the humorously awkward line judge report Serena’s tirade to the chair umpire.
This freak-out proved costly to Serena as the fault led to match point in a closely contested set and the subsequent point penalty for the flip-out ended the match in Clijster’s favor. Additionally, Williams was fined $10,000 for “unsportsmanlike conduct” and that’s not including another $500 for her earlier “racket abuse”.

Rafael Nadal, current No. 1 and reigning champion of Wimbledon, announced today that he has withdrawn from the prestigious tournament. He hinted at not participating at Wimbledon after his 4th round defeat at the French Open last month citing knee problems. Apparently, Nadal has been playing with knee tendonitis for quite sometime, but it's now becoming more problematic than ever. Nadal stated, "When I enter a tournament my goal is winning and my feeling right now is I'm not ready to win."
This new development puts a new spin on the Wimbledon draw, and gives Roger Federer another chance to close the gap on Nadal and the World No. 1 spot. Once again, Federer is the man to beat on England's grass courts and favored to win his 15th major title, breaking Pete Sampras' previous record of 14. No one can really stand in Federer's way on grass, so it should be an easy road for the former No. 1 to this year's title.

Now that I have your attention, Maria Sharapova announced on Monday that she will be returning to competitive tennis this week. She is scheduled to play doubles at the Indian Wells tournament. It's been 7 months since we've last seen Sharapova on the courts due to a right shoulder injury sustained before the US Open last year. No doubt that all the tennis paparazzi, press, and photographers in general are all dusting off their super telephoto lenses for the inevitable 9 million pictures that will surface this year.
Now, I know you're not really here to read what I have to say, especially with that picture up there, so I'll just stop here. Here, for the reader's enjoyment, I present you a gallery of Sharapova that I painstakingly scoured the internet for.

This past weekend was the first round of the Davis Cup, an international men's team tournament. With Team USA squaring up against a Federer-less Swiss team on American soil in their first match up.

The current ATP No. 2, Roger Federer, was on top of the world of tennis just over a year ago, but 2008 was unkind to him. And, 2009 doesn't look much better. Since Federer has taken a prolonged injury timeout, lets take a look at what has happened so far.

Current ATP #1 has announced his withdrawl from next week's tournament in Dubai citing a strained ligament in his right knee. Along with Roger Federer's announcement earlier this week, both ATP #1 and #2 have withdrawn from Dubai. This is surely to disappoint fans with hopes to see the top seeds and their ongoing rivalry.

Current #2 in the world, Roger Federer, has announced his withdrawl from the upcoming tournament hosted in Dubai as well as the Switzerland v. USA Davis Cup match scheduled for the first weekend of March.
