EA's NHL series has been on a role lately, and in a year in which many sports sims are finally showing us what these current-gen systems are capable of, EA Canada still has managed to make NHL stand a head above the crowd.

NHL 10's demo is set to hit the ice soon and it's going to be one heck of a package for a downloadable taste of the full game.

Included are several game modes, tutorials and different settings to play with which should really set it apart from the simple 2 minute demos put out by EA's footballers earlier this summer.

EA's finally letting us in on some details about their new season of EASHL, and the early news sounds like an excellent step forward from last year's prodigious effort.

Outdoor game set at Wrigley Field

Earlier this week, we were able to get screens, features, covers, and a brand new NHL 2K10 teaser trailer. But, it looks like it wasn't enough and so they've sent us a little more.

My last NHL 2K10 post was pretty hefty, so I will keep this short. Check out the attached gallery for a few screenshots of on ice action and a glimpse of some of the arenas. And...

I've already gushed about the new Be a GM mode new to this year's NHL 10, but EA Sports is also bringing other new innovations to its hockey powerhouse with several new game modes and tweaks to add to the fun.

That's right folks, we've got a boat load of information on the upcoming 2K Sports title, NHL 2K10. If you've been keeping up with our NHL 2K10 coverage, you'll notice that the box art has changed a bit. But, that's of little concern since we've got bigger things to dish out.

Although most information is still to be announced, we've got a solid list of features for NHL 2K10, and after a quick call to the game's producer, Ben Bishop, I was able to get a bit more detail than what was previously offered.

Hockey is funny in that it a sport in which there are truly two distinctly different seasons. There is the regular season, and there are the playoffs. And if you've ever been a fan of hockey or know somebody that is a die-hard fan, then you're well aware of just how insane the playoffs can be. EA Sports' new game mode for NHL 10 "Battle for the Cup" looks to bring that intensity and urgency to the home consoles.

In what appears to be a desperation act by NHL 2K10 cover star Alex Ovechkin, the Capitals star player lays out on the ice to try and score the goal. Either that or he was just struck in the face by the puck and is now sliding unconscious toward the wall. But since 2K Sports claims this shot shows a new feature in this year's game, we're going to nix the latter suggestion in favor of something more probable like new goalie controls. This is the first of many screen shots to come for NHL 2K10, as EA Sports is already well into their buzz marketing campaign for NHL 10 and 2K Sports is expected to ramp up their promotion in August.

The marquee feature of many EA Sports games is its deep franchise mode, whether it be for a professional team in Madden Football, or as a university's athletic director in NCAA College Football. NHL 10 is making a big leap forward this season by revamping its previously generic General Manager mode and turning it into a full fledged NHL experience.
